Peer-to-Peer

What is the NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education Program?

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery. Taught by trained leaders with lived experience, this program includes activities, discussions and informative videos. However, as with all NAMI programs, it does not include recommendations for treatment approaches.

Taking Steps:

A Reflection from April Bryant, February 28, 2018 of NAMI Franklin County’s Peer to Peer Education Program

"We have come together to take steps towards our journey with mental health; this journey is not easy. But we are not alone. Many others have experiences that are very similar. There is nothing to be ashamed of. What we share is a part of who we are. It doesn’t define us. It makes us extremely unique. In this class we created a connection. A connection of mutual respect and understanding. We have taken steps together to gain more knowledge. We all have experienced dark places along our journey. We were able to express those times. We have talked about our good places, too. I have learned different things about each of you. I have found strength through this class. I believe that this connection we share is one that we look back on and cherish. We will recall being there as others were taking steps in their journey. Can you see your growth? I can! I feel so blessed to have met all of you. What I take away from all of you is that I’m not alone. I’m not alone in speaking about my mental health and becoming knowledgeable of it. Give yourself a round of applause! The applause is for many different things. But the main one is that you showed up ready to take the steps. Each step you take forward will break through your cocoon and you will fly beautifully."
